David Gordon: Artist Statement

A friend recently asked what the job description of an artist is. I responded, “An artist’s job is to inspire people to see the world in a fresh way, to loosen the grips of habitual perception and to bring awareness to the possibility of a deeper, richer more expansive reality.” How can this be achieved? By loosening control of the habitual, rational mind while creating and by allowing bigger energies and deeper psychologies to emerge.

The intention of my work is to bring focus to that part of our experience that is fresh and vivid, and to celebrate the creative process which connects us to that part of our being that is fluid, vivacious, effervescent and unpredictable.
